Web design is the procedure for creating sites . It encompasses many unique factors, including page design, content creation, and graphic design. While the terms web design and web development are often used interchangeably, web design is a sub set of the wider category of internet development.

Sites are created using a mark up language known as HTML. Web designers build webpages using HTML tags which specify the content and meta data of each webpage. The design and appearance of those elements within a webpage are typically characterized using CSS, or cascading style sheets. So, most sites include a combination of HTML and CSS that defines the size of each page will appear at a browser.

This type of editor gives a visual interface for designing the webpage design and the computer software automatically produces the corresponding HTML and CSS code. Still another popular means to create sites is by using a content management system such as WordPress or even Joomla. These services give different site templates that may be used as a starting point for a new website. Web-masters may then add content and customize the layout working with an internet interface.

While HTML and CSS have been used to style the look and feel of a site, graphics must be generated separately. For that reason, graphicdesign can overlap with web design, since graphic artists regularly create images for use on the Web. Some graphics apps like Adobe Photoshop even include a"Save for Web..." option that offers a simple way to export images in a format optimized for web publishing.
